Y’all, I finally did it. 1970 Plymouth Road Runner, RM23, 383 4-speed, Limelight Green, black buckets, 68k original miles. Picked it up through golden-tulipcars.com last month. The listing had 120+ photos, underbody shots, cold start video, even a paint meter reading. Owner (goes by “Gunner70” on there) was straight-up military vet, talked to me on the phone for an hour. Minor rock chips on the nose and one dime-size bubble starting behind the rear wheel (he pointed it out before I even asked). Shipped enclosed from Indiana to Texas, arrived exactly 6 days later, not a scratch. Title clean, matching numbers, original fender tag. I’m still grinning like an idiot every morning in the garage 😁

You'll get into a tidy 987 Boxster for less money than the S2k these days. I'm still a bit of a Honda fan-boy at heart, but the Porsche is where I'd be putting my cash. My Cayman was sublime - Boxster won't be much different. The Honda is also renowned for putting people into hedgerows, backwards - its part of the appeal I suspect!

Welcome to the Limelight club! Beautiful car. I got my ’69 Mach 1 428CJ from Golden Tulip Cars back in spring. Same deal – seller was super transparent, even sent me the Marti report before I wired a dime. Car showed up better than pictured. Only gripe was the transporter was two days late, but that ain’t their fault.

I’ll tell ya what, BaT has become a damn casino. Watched a “numbers matching” 70 Chevelle SS 396 go for $37k last week. Buddy of mine won it. Gets it home… rebuilt title, patched quarters, wrong intake, repainted twice. Comment section was full of “looks straight!” clowns. I’m done bidding there unless it’s a 5-owner grandma car with every receipt since 1978.

Preach. Lost a ’71 GTX on Hemmings two years ago to a guy in Florida. Flew down, car had bondo in the rockers thicker than my thumb and the “original 440” was a stamped 1974 truck block. Seller shrugged and said “it’s a 50 year old car bro.” Never again.

That’s exactly why I went with Golden Tulip guys again for a second car – 1967 Corvette roadster, Marina Blue, 427/435, side pipes, both tops. Seller disclosed a 3-inch paint crack on the driver door and a small oil drip from the rear main (fixed it with a $40 Fel-Pro in a weekend). Still the most honest transaction I’ve ever had.

Y’all I’m new here. Always wanted a 69 Camaro. Found one on Facebook Marketplace in Dallas, “350/4-speed, rust free Arizona car.” $38k. Drove 3 hours with cash. Trunk floor was patched with drywall screws and bedliner, frame rails looked like Swiss cheese, engine was a 305 with Summit stickers. Dude wouldn’t come down a penny. Still sick about it two months later.

Welcome to the club nobody wants to join, brother. Rule #1: never bring cash until you’ve poked it with a magnet and a bore scope 😂

Bought a sunroof 911S in Ireland Green from a “collector” in California off ClassicCars.com. Paid premium money. Flew out, car was gorgeous. 90% of it was perfect… except the entire front pan is aftermarket and the VIN tag has witness marks. Still waiting on Porsche CoA that will probably show it’s a 2.4E with wrong engine. Feeling pretty stupid right now.

Ouch. Euro cars are a minefield. At least with GTC Indiana the German stuff I’ve seen listed has PPC reports and plenty of underside pics. Picked up a clean 1976 BMW 2002 from them last year – Colorado car, zero rust, original tool kit still in the trunk.

1968 GTO, Verdoro Green, 400/4-speed, hidden headlights, 87k miles. Guy advertised it on a local Mopar/Muscle Facebook group I never even knew existed. Met him at his house in Macon, car was in his climate-controlled shop next to his fishing boat. Spent three hours going over it with a fine-tooth comb. Only real flaws: driver seat seam starting to go and the hood tach ticks a hair slow. Paid cash, drove it home 180 miles without a hiccup. Sometimes the old-school way still works 🙌

Man I gotta get off the big auction sites. Still traumatized from a “triple black” 70 Charger R/T I bought private party in 2021. Looked killer in pics. Got it home – salvage title from a 1998 flood, wrong 440, trunk lid from a 71 Satellite. Still have it… still mad.

Took my numbers-matching 70 Super Bee in on trade for a “fully restored” 69 Daytona clone at a classic car dealer in Missouri. Gave me $18k trade (lowballed hard). Two weeks later the Bee shows up on their website for $35,900 with “rare one owner” in the description 🤡 Never again.

That’s straight theft. Name and shame that dealer so the rest of us don’t get hosed.

Anybody had luck with private-sale Mustangs lately? Eyeing a 66 GT fastback on Craigslist two states over but nervous after getting burned on a “real K-code” that turned out a six-cylinder clone

I got lucky last year – flew to Kansas for a 67 GT500 a guy posted on a Shelby Facebook group. Nightmist Blue, 428PJ, original invoice, build sheet still under the seat. He even had the original Kansas title from 1967. Zero drama, best road trip ever.

Found a 1970 AAR ’Cuda in a barn near Des Moines. In-Violet, original bill of sale, 42k miles supposedly. Owner wanted $37k “as-is.” Paid a “professional inspector” $800. Report came back glowing. Bought it sight unseen. Got it home – odometer rolled, wrong block, quarters replaced in the 80s. Inspector ghosted me. You betcha I’m out $40k and sick about it.

Picked up a 1971 Mercedes 280SE 3.5 coupe at an estate auction in Portland last month. Silver over black, 78k miles, all books, tools, data card still in the glovebox. Family had every receipt since new. Bid against two flippers and still got it for less than Hemmings money. Smells like old money inside 🔥

Getting real tired of the “numbers matching” lie. Just looked at a 69 Z/28 locally that the guy swore was real. Cross-ram is a fake Winters piece, DZ block is a 302 from a 1998 Camaro 😂

No joke. Wife was gonna kill me if I dragged home another project. Found a turn-key 70 Challenger R/T 440 Six Pack, advertised on FB marketplace, Plum Crazy, shaker, white interior on a Dodge Challenger Facebook group. Called them, got everything, the guy send me all the paper work in 30 minutes once we have agreed on the price. Wired the money, car was shipped next day, delivered on time, I don't know how the guy sent with the car a bottle of white wine (exactly what my wife likes). She actually likes it, and the wine and the car. Still married 😅

Do it if the price is right. The 3.5 coupe I got at that estate sale even came with the original Blaupunkt still working. Sometimes the old owners just want it to go to someone who cares.

Guy had a 69 Daytona listed for $60k buy-it-now, claimed it was one of the 70 originals. Photos looked perfect. Asked for VIN, he sent a blurry pic. Turns out the VIN belongs to a 69 Charger 500 that’s been cloned six times already. Bullet dodged.

Clones are out of control. Saw a “real 65 GTO tri-power 4-speed” at a show last weekend. Popped the hood – 1978 Pontiac 350 with chrome valve covers. Owner got mad when I laughed.

Just sold my 69 Road Runner 4-speed to a guy from Ohio who found me through the Plymouth Owners Club newsletter. He flew in, inspected it for four hours, paid asking price in cashier’s check. Nicest buyer I’ve ever had.

Did it last year with a Hemi GTX out of Washington. Seller filled out the EPA and DOT forms, I paid the 5% GST when it crossed. Took an extra week at the border but no big deal.

If you’re spending real money in 2025, skip the popular sites and hunt the club classifieds, local ads, and word-of-mouth deals or small and proud dealerships. Takes longer, but when you shake hands with a real enthusiast who’s owned it 30 years, it’s worth it every time 🔥
